FROM EXPERIENCES is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting individuals as they deal with the stress associated with acclimating themselves back into the community, post-release reintegration. Whether individuals are reentering the community after incarceration and/or are already part of the community, FROM EXPERIENCES is here to help individuals seeking mental healthcare assistance.

FROM EXPERIENCES Corp. is the brainchild of its two co-founders, Christy and Wazir El-Amin. After meeting and communicating with one another, the two discovered that they share many of the same lived experiences. In particular, the experience of trauma in their life. Not only aware of their own personal experiences, Christy and Wazir have an awareness of the experiences of other people. These co-founders’ approach towards the experience of trauma is with a level of consciousness.

The Program (90-Day / 12 Weeks)

FROM EXPERIENCES will facilitate a 12 week/90 day) in-house education program wherein participants enrolled in the program will be provided with: (a) safe place to live, (b) home cooked meals, (c) group counseling sessions and (d) individual counseling/therapy. FROM EXPERIENCES offers its full support to participants as they reintegrate back into the community after having gone through the experience of incarceration.

Working With Therapists

WHO defines mental health as “a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.

Group Sessions

FROM EXPERIENCES group therapy (counseling) stresses a healthy lifestyle and coping strategies that can reduce the occurrence of recidivism. Sessions focus on applying the two-module curriculum, encouraging interaction, and analyzing communication skills, interaction and exchange of ideas between the individual participants.

Safe House

Cognitive Behavioral Therapies have cast a dark shadow in the prison system, where these approaches toward rehabilitation enshrine the thinking function of the brain over and above everything else.

FROM EXPERIENCES will be a place to find a sense of empowerment, community and healing. FROM EXPERIENCES will serve as a liaison or bridge between recently released men and women in its program and the community. Participants will be taught how to use their own life experiences, learn from them and grow. FROM EXPERIENCES’ educational program is designed to empower men and women by teaching them the coping skills that are necessary to use in order to become productive members of society.

FROM EXPERIENCES will be a resource for current and formerly incarcerated men and women as they make the difficult mental transition back into society. FROM EXPERIENCES is committed to supporting individuals in this mental transition from prison to living a life of purpose and meaning in the communities that they are returning to. FROM EXPERIENCES mission addresses the trauma of incarceration and the challenges that come along with reintegration. FROM EXPERIENCES supports men and women in recovering from incarceration. A recovery that involves (re)connecting with our fellow human beings. FROM EXPERIENCES mission is to assist in this (re)connection back into the community.

Impact & Empowerment

In order to reform the criminal justice system, we must first humanize and learn from individuals and communities that have been impacted by it. Located in the 53206 zip code, FROM EXPERIENCES Corp. was established to provide services in one such impacted community. A community where many men and women lived before their incarceration and will be returning to live.
When we see trauma on such a large scale, this helps those @FROM EXPERIENCES Corp. humanize the experiences of others and serves as motivation to contribute to the solution by helping individuals become more informed and empowered. Individuals will be taught that their strength, power and resourcefulness is in the truth of their experience. FROM EXPERIENCES’ participants will be given an opportunity that will have an impact for change in themselves, their families and their community.

FROM EXPERIENCES seeks ‘voluntary participants’ who are themselves seeking to make the necessary changes in their life to become better versions of themselves.
